About the camp
From June 1–5, 2026, ten Brunswick lower schoolers spent a week playing chess in a Greenwich backyard.
Camp ran every level at once. Beginners learned the rules and basic tactics; tournament players worked on openings and endgames. Everyone was coached at their own level.
Between games there were outdoor games, room to run around, and lunch together every day.

Highlights
We split into groups by ability each morning. Beginners learned the pieces and basic tactics; advanced players worked on openings, endgames, and rated-style games.
Between rounds the boards came down for soccer, lawn games, and time to run around before the next match.
We broke for lunch together every day — one of the best parts of camp, and a good chance to talk through the morning's games.
The whole group on the last day. Until next summer.
